Let’s talk about Javan’s number one and most popular anti-aging aesthetic treatment: botulinum or neurotoxins! Neurotoxins include Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport and can be used to improve wrinkles, smooth out the skin, and restore tone. When neurotoxins are injected into a muscle, they block signals from nerves that make our muscles contract. With less muscle movement, the frequency of creasing your skin reduces and your face can appear more youthful over time.  Even for those under the age of 30, neurotoxins serve as a great preventative to treat signs of aging in addition to our older patients who are treated to reduce visible fine lines and wrinkles.  We also use ‘tox’ – as we like to call it – for non-aesthetic purposes such as treating migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). When to start getting injections?

I always recommend starting neurotoxin injections earlier to prevent wrinkles.  This way we can avoid dealing with a much bigger and more stubborn problem in the future. Once fine lines progress to deeper wrinkles, they can be harder to treat and those injections oftentimes have to be supplemented with other treatments to achieve a desired result.  There’s no shame in it! I have 21-year old clients who are getting what we call “baby botox” to prevent those stubborn lines they are likely to get in the future, and I also have 30-50 year old clients who are getting great results treating the existing and far more visible concerns.  I also recommend neurotoxins in conjunction with other collagen stimulating treatments such as microneedling, Morpheus8 (radio frequency microneedling), and chemical peels.

Botulinum for hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating

With hot summer days on the horizon, we treat so many patients for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.  Forget about sweaty armpits and embarrassing moments – the benefits can last up to 3 months and is perfect when your deodorant just doesn’t cut it.

How it works: when Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport is injected into the underarms, nerve receptors are blocked and stop transmitting signals, sweat glands stop receiving appropriate signals from nerve endings, and therefore do not release sweat.  We recommended repeating this treatment about every 10 weeks for optimal results.
