Tox (we offer Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport!) has become one of the most popular aesthetic treatments worldwide, but with popularity comes plenty of misinformation. Let’s clear things up. Below, we are breaking down the most common myths we hear in practice and sharing the facts you need to know.
Myth #1: Tox is only for wrinkles
Fact: While smoothing fine lines is what Tox is best known for, it is also FDA-approved for several medical uses. These include chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), jaw clenching or TMJ, muscle spasms, and even eye twitching.
Aesthetic benefits are just one piece of a much bigger picture.
Myth #2: Tox freezes your face
Fact: When performed correctly, Tox does not “freeze” your face—it relaxes targeted muscles. The goal is balance: softening lines while maintaining natural movement and expression. You will still look like you, just more refreshed and well-rested.
Myth #3: Tox is toxic
Fact: Tox is a purified protein derived from botulinum toxin and used in extremely small, controlled doses. It has been extensively studied and safely used in both medical and aesthetic settings for over 30 years. When administered by trained professionals, it has an excellent safety profile.
Myth #4: Only older people get Tox
Fact: Many patients in their 20s and 30s choose preventative Tox to help minimize repetitive muscle movement and prevent deeper lines from forming over time. Think of it as proactive skincare just at the muscle level.
Myth #5: Once you start, you cannot stop
Fact: Tox is completely temporary. Results typically last about 3 to 4 months. If you decide to stop treatments, your muscles will gradually return to their natural movement and your face will look the same as it did before, no worsening, no damage.
The Bottom Line
Tox is one of the most researched and customizable treatments in aesthetics. When tailored to your anatomy and goals, it can be both subtle and transformative. Knowledge matters and choosing an experienced provider makes all the difference.
